Frequently Asked Questions
What is executive coaching?
Executive coaching is the ultimate tailored leadership development. You work one-on-one with a world-class Coach on your goals and challenges, your personal strengths and any areas for development. Together you create a strong and trusting partnership that enables you to improve and sustain your performance. For more information, please see our article “What is Executive Coaching?”
What do executive coaches do?
Executive coaches work closely with leaders to provide and interpret valuable feedback, identify challenges and opportunities, ask thought-provoking questions, act as a sounding board, and facilitate learning. By supporting leaders and monitoring progress over time, coaches are able to help grow careers and transform individuals and entire organizations.
What is the structure of executive coaching?
See our best practice Executive Coaching Model for more details about what should happen at each stage of your coaching journey
How many sessions of coaching would I need?
The number of sessions you need depends on what you want to achieve. You should expect to work with a coach over a period of 6-12 months, meeting them at least once a month. 6 sessions is the minimum we would recommend. See our best practice Executive Coaching Model for more detail about what should happen at each stage of your coaching journey.
Can executive coaching be provided virtually?
Yes, executive coaching can be delivered virtually and in-person. Please contact us to discuss your needs.
Is executive coaching confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is one of the key foundations of coaching. Our coaches place paramount emphasis on ethical behaviour and confidentiality.
What are the results of executive coaching?
By participating in executive coaching experiences, your leaders will gain increased self-awareness, a drive for transformational change, and a renewed sense of opportunity. Coaching can improve performance in key ways, including providing a greater understanding of self, others, and the larger organizational context; and an enhanced ability to communicate effectively and coach others. Our coaches provide critical support and feedback to help leaders set goals, create action plans, and enhance performance.
How do you know if executive coaching is effective?
Research has found that those who have had executive coaching are significantly more effective leaders, with increased resilience, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness. They’re able to use their strengths more effectively and can recognize and work around their weaknesses. Executive coaching helps leaders feel they have an increased sense of self-understanding, purpose, and clarity on next steps to drive change. Of course, there is a benefit to continuing a long-term executive coaching relationship, but even a brief coaching engagement during turbulent times can be an effective experience that results in the ability to set clear goals and navigate a crisis with confidence.
How can you identify the best executive coach?
Finding the best executive coach is a personal experience and should be tailored to the individual or individuals who are participating. At Azelea Coaching Advisory, our coaches, undergo a rigorous selection, training, and quality control process. We consider your leaders’ expertise, industry, skillset and personality before matching them with the right coach.
How is executive coaching different from other types of coaching?
Executive coaching is different from other types of approaches because it is relationship-based, focused on the individual and how they show up as they lead, and designed to make a personal connection that gives way to organizational transformation. Coaching is focused on enhancing current job performance — leaders work directly with an executive coach to discuss ideas, receive feedback, and set personalized goals. Often an executive coach will help the leader understand feedback from assessments, create and work through a development plan, and address any specific business or interpersonal challenges.
Can you connect coaching objectives to existing organizational competencies and objectives?
Yes. At the start of an organizational coaching program, our team learns about the organizational context, including existing competency models and business objectives. For us and our coaches, coaching goals must be relevant and meaningful for both the individual and the organization.
